Tim
Pitchford has played trombone professionally since 1992. He began as a
teenager playing with local South Florida swing bands led by Benny
Goodfellow and Steve Saylo and studied with retired New York freelance jazz trombonist Andy Matzkow. In 1993 he entered the University of North Florida where he played in the
UNF One o'clock band under the direction of Bruce Silva. He travelled
to Costa Rica in 1994 with multi-instrumentalist jazz musician Dr. Bill
Prince for a diplomatic Dixieland tour. He then attended one year at
Manhattan School of Music where he studied with Village Vanguard
leader, trombonist John Mosca.
In 1996, Tim joined the
horn section of TRUTH. He toured the United States and Central America
and recorded a live album in 1997 entitled TRUTH: 25th Anniversary. In
1998, Tim went back to University of North Florida and played lead
trombone in the UNF One o'clock band for the final 2 years of his
Bachelors of Music Degree. After his undergraduate work, Tim became a
trombonist with the Walt Disney World Band and later became lead
trombonist with the Walt Disney World Main Street Philharmonic.

In
2000, Tim left Disney to pursue a Masters in Music from Georgia State
under the direction of Dr. Gordon Vernick and Dr. Tom Gibson. In
Atlanta, Tim was a part of numerous commercial recording sessions,
national tour Broadway productions at Atlanta's Fox Theatre, several
contracted concerts with artists such as Michael and Randy
Brecker and was Instructor of Trombone at The Lovett School, Atlanta's premier college prep school.
Tim
received a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Studio Music and Jazz at
University of Miami in 2005. He is currently the Instructor of Trombone and Director of the SIUC Studio Jazz Orchestra at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Dr. Pitchford is an artist/clinician for King Instruments.
